Anthony Joshua Reveals How He Will Break Parker
Boxing champion Anthony Joshua has already revealed the basis of his fight plan to beat Joseph Parker.
The world heavyweight unification fight has been confirmed for Cardiff’s 78,000-seater Principality Stadium on March 31.
Much has been made by the Parker camp of the contrasting qualities of the chins of the respective boxers in the lead up to the fight announcement – Joshua’s “glass” against Parker’s “granite”.
Neither has lost a fight and Parker, unlike Joshua, has never been knocked down in training or battle.
Joshua acknowledged that Parker strength as he laid out his approach to Sky TV in the UK, conceding he would attempt to break down Parker with body shots.
“I’m going to smash him up to the body,” Joshua said, believing a similar approach saw him get past Carlos Takam in his last fight in October.
“What slowed Takam down is when I started punching him to the stomach.
“Jab to the stomach, right hand to the stomach. If someone has got a strong head, you hit them to the body. It’s quite simple so if Parker’s got a granite chin, I’ll weaken his body down.”
Joshua is a fast starter who likes a busy, aggressive approach from the opening bell. He has won 16 of his 20 fights inside three rounds.
But he had to grind his way past Takam before eventually winning by a 10th round TKO. In his mega-fight with former champion Wladimir Klitschko earlier last year Joshua had to go 11 rounds before finishing the giant Ukrainian.
