Arsenal Beat Chelsea To Reach Carabao Cup Final
Arsenal have reached the Carabao Cup final with a 2-1 win over Chelsea and now setting up an intriguing League Cup final against Premier League leaders Manchester City.
After a goalless first leg, Chelsea took an early lead at the Emirates when Tiemoue Bakayoko played the ball into Pedro and he released Eden Hazard, who slotted past David Ospina from 12 yards
But Arsenal were level five minutes later via a bizarre Antonio Rudiger own goal and the Gunners’ winner came about with a touch of fortune as Alexandre Lacazette‘s pull-back rebounded off Rudiger and Granit Xhaka pounced from range.
Arsene Wenger has an outstanding record in the FA Cup with Arsenal but in more than 21 years in the job he has never won the League Cup.
Pep Guardiola on the other hand will be desperate to claim the first silverware of his time in charge at City, who are chasing glory on four fronts.
Wenger was unable to field the cup-tied Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who joined the club from Manchester United earlier this week in a swap deal with Alexis Sanchez moving in the other direction while Ross Barkley made his debut for Chelsea as a first-half substitute.
