Champions League And The Countdown To Cardiff
By Adenike Olusiku
Am a huge fan of theme songs, I particularly love James Horner’s ‘Braveheart’ theme song (amazing) but as football fans hearing the Champions League theme song played just get us excited. So look away Arsenal fans, cause the Champions League is here again.
With fixtures like Juventus vs Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund vs Monaco, Atletico Madrid vs Leicester City and Bayern Munich facing Real Madrid, fans can once again look forward to mid-week matches with a big smile, and I especially love when players get to play against their former teams like Dani Alves and Xavi Alonso will be doing.
Juventus Vs Barcelona
Juventus and Barcelona’s last encounter was in Berlin with the latter winning 3-1. Barcelona though have never beaten Juventus on their home soil in Europe with a record of two draws and two losses. Juventus remains the only Italian team that has reached the last eight of the champions league in five season and they are also unbeaten in their last 17 Champions League matches. So Barcelona shouldn’t think Juventus would be walk over cause they are not.
Bayern Munich Vs Real Madrid
With over 20 matches in European cup and Champions League, Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid is definitely one match you wouldn’t want to miss. With Both teams having met seven times in Champions League knockout stage since the year 2000 and in four occasions the team that advances from the tie wins the title, although both teams lost vital players in Pepe and Mats Hummels at the weekend we should still expect an epic match up between them.
Borussia Dortmund Vs Monaco
It was goals galore when both sides played their round of 16 matches with both teams losing their first leg but coming back strong to qualify for the quarter finals. This will be the first time both teams are meeting in the competition but it will definitely be a tricky match based on their outstanding performances in the qualifiers
Atletico Madrid Vs Leicester City
67% of Atletico Madrid last nine home games have seen over three goals, as have 67% of Leicester last nine on the road so we should definitely expect a goal. Players like Nico Gaitan, Tiago, Auguston Fernandez and striker Kevin Gameiro and Wes Morgan, Wilfred Ndidi are expected to miss the game through injuries. Atletico striker Griezmann has warned against underestimating Leicester saying, “they are just like us” especially after their defeat to Everton. Atletico have appeared in two of the last three finals.
