In the light of the appellate court’s judgment on the contentious ‎ emergence of Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, a senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce has urged the party to accept the decision of the court.

He threw his weight behind the judgment, saying there must be an end to litigation.

He also stated that the internal crises within the opposition PDP has resulted in a number of defections to the APC which, according to him spells doom for the party.

The senator said, “If the PDP is to present itself as a party that intends to contest elected office at the next general election, its internal democracy must be at work to keep to the barest minimum bickering and unnecessary distractions.”

To him, PDP should resolve the chairmanship issue by organizing a convention which will determine who emerges, noting, “the chairmanship position is tenured and cannot continue indefinitely.”

The senator says he weighed his position carefully in the interest of the party and because the rule of law and the sanctity of court judgments must be preserved to enhance our relatively young democracy.
