Nnedi Okorafor Is Contributing To The Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Story Collection
In honour of the upcoming 40th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, the franchise is launching Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View, a new anthology celebrating 40 years of Star Wars with 40 stories. The collection features Star Wars stories by best-selling authors, trendsetting artists, and treasured voices from Star Wars literary history.
More than 40 authors have been invited to lend their unique vision to 40 “scenes,” each retelling a different moment from the original Star Wars film, but with a twist: every scene is told from the point of view of a background character.
Nigerian-American author, Nnedi Okorafor is one of the 40 writers invited to contribute to the collection. Nnedi revealed, in a series of tweets, that the title of her short story is The Baptist, and it is written from the perspective of a creature called Dianoga, a pre-historic species in the Star Wars universe known to feed on organic waste. Dianoga is the Trash Compactor monster in Star Wars: A New Hope.
Some of the other contributors include Renee Ahdieh, Tom Angleberger, Meg Cabot, Gary Whitta etc. The anthology will be released on October 3, 2017.
