Nigeria’s D’Tigress have made history as they defeated Greece 57-56 to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2018 FIBA Woman’s Basketball World Cup.
They had beaten both Turkey and Argentina in their group stage matches to advance to the playoffs.
The team played Greece in their playoffs and just edged a win, beating them 57-56.
D’Tigress has now become, not only the first African team to win a match or advance past the group stage in the world cup, but also the first to advance to the Quarter Finals.
Top performers for D’Tigress were Akhator with 14 points and 13 rebounds and four steals, Adaora Elonu with four assists and two blocks.
Following their victory over Greece they will take on reigning and two time consecutive world champions United States of America on Friday, September 28.
