The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation has taken a bold step in reshaping Africa’s creative future, awarding $2.1 million worth of scholarships to 18 young Nigerian music talents under its first major education initiative in Lagos.
Delivered in collaboration with the prestigious Berklee College of Music, the programme wrapped up with a high-energy finale at the National Theatre in Lagos after an intensive five-day training held from April 22 to 26, 2026.
The initiative attracted massive interest across the country, with about 120 emerging artists, producers, songwriters, and music professionals selected from thousands of applicants. The goal was clear: identify and nurture the next generation of global-ready African music talent.
Over the course of the programme, participants underwent rigorous practical training in songwriting, live performance, production techniques, stagecraft, and the business of music. They were guided through immersive workshops and collaborative sessions led by Berklee instructors and seasoned industry experts.
The climax of the programme saw 18 standout participants awarded fully funded undergraduate scholarships to study at Berklee in Boston. The package, collectively valued at over $2.1 million, marks a significant investment in exporting African creativity to the global stage.
The final showcase turned into a vibrant celebration of talent, featuring live performances of original works developed during the training, alongside appearances from established Nigerian music stars who came to support the rising acts.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Tiwa Savage described the initiative as an emotional milestone and a long-term vision to equip African creatives with world-class education and access to global opportunities.
Organisers say the programme is only the beginning of a wider mission to expand structured music education across Africa and strengthen pathways for young talents aiming to compete internationally.
