It was a night of contrasting emotions for controversial Nigerian street-hop star Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, within hours of losing his celebrity boxing title to skit maker Carter Efe, the singer announced the birth of his baby boy with wife Omobewaji Ewatomi.
The defeat came early Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the “Chaos in the Ring 4” event held at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos. All three judges scored the three-round bout 30–27 in favour of Carter Efe, ending Portable’s unbeaten run after previous wins against Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington. Carter Efe used his height and reach to control the pace, landing cleaner punches while Portable struggled to break through.
Portable didn’t take the loss lightly. In an Instagram live video, he accused the organisers of bias and claimed he was “robbed,” arguing that his punches weren’t properly counted. He also demanded around ₦200 million in streaming revenue, threatening trouble if it wasn’t paid.
But the sting of defeat quickly gave way to celebration. Hours after the fight, Portable shared that his wife had delivered a bouncing baby boy. In a heartfelt Instagram post he wrote, _“My wife just gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. I value that more than a belt. You can buy the belt, but not my child”_. He added that his wife was in labour while he was still in the ring, making the moment even more emotional.
Omobewaji confirmed the delivery with an “Alhamdullillah” post and revealed the newborn’s name as Jamal Iremide, calling him her “little blessing”. Portable’s manager, Babyluvgram, also announced the birth online, congratulating the couple.
Despite the controversy around the fight, Portable made it clear that fatherhood outweighed any championship belt. The singer, who already has multiple children from different relationships, has often spoken about expanding his family.
The event has sparked debate online over both the fairness of the celebrity boxing matchup and the growing popularity of such bouts in Nigeria’s entertainment scene.
