Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has doubled down on his strained relationship with Afrobeats star Wizkid, making it clear that reconciliation is off the table following what he considers disrespectful remarks tied to his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
During a recent appearance on the Selah Meditate Podcast, Seun addressed the ongoing tension head-on, dismissing any notion that the disagreement between both camps has cooled or been resolved.
He explained that the issue escalated from online exchanges and public debates surrounding Fela’s legacy, which later drew in Wizkid and sections of his fanbase amid broader conversations comparing Afrobeat’s origin to its modern evolution.
Seun insisted that the matter is deeply personal and irreversible in his view, stressing that he has no intention of revisiting it.
“My grudge with Wizkid is on for life. You don’t say things about my dad and think it’s fine. There’s no coming back from that,” he stated.
The feud reportedly gained momentum earlier in the year as social media discussions about Fela’s influence in contemporary Afrobeats became increasingly heated, sparking reactions from both fans and industry figures and eventually spilling into direct exchanges.
While Wizkid has publicly acknowledged Fela’s legendary status in previous interviews, Seun Kuti has continued to criticise how his father’s legacy is referenced and debated in public discourse.
For now, Seun’s position remains unchanged, with no indication of reconciliation between both sides anytime soon.
