Nigeria to Host 2026 CAF Awards After Morocco Run

Nigeria is set to welcome Africa’s football elite after securing hosting rights for the 2026 CAF Awards, ending Morocco’s four-year run as host of the continent’s biggest football celebration.

The development marks a major win for Nigerian football and entertainment, with the country expected to become the center of African football glamour as top players, coaches, officials, and celebrities converge for the prestigious awards ceremony next year.

Organised by the Confederation of African Football, the annual awards recognize the continent’s finest football talents across categories including Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Club of the Year, and National Team of the Year.

Morocco had successfully hosted recent editions of the ceremony, particularly in Marrakech, helping strengthen its growing reputation as a hub for major African football events. During that stretch, the North African nation also staged several continental tournaments and football congresses.

Nigeria’s emergence as the next host is being viewed as a reflection of the country’s enduring influence in African football, both on and off the pitch. Stakeholders believe the event will not only elevate Nigeria’s sporting image but also create economic opportunities through tourism, hospitality, sponsorships, and international media exposure.

The hosting rights come at a time when Nigerian football continues to enjoy strong continental visibility, driven by the success of Nigerian stars across Europe and Africa, alongside growing investments in sports and entertainment events.

Analysts also say the CAF Awards could further boost Nigeria’s ambition to position itself as a leading destination for global sporting and cultural gatherings.

Although CAF is yet to officially unveil the host city and exact ceremony date, excitement is already building among football fans eager to see Africa’s brightest football stars gather in Nigeria for one of the sport’s most glamorous nights.

Beyond the awards themselves, the 2026 ceremony is expected to feature music performances, cultural displays, and high-profile appearances celebrating the richness of African football and entertainment
