The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has officially withdrawn the Super Eagles from their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match against Libya.
This decision follows a distressing experience at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya, where the team was stranded for over 12 hours without basic amenities.
The Super Eagles, including high-profile players like Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze, arrived in Libya for their crucial qualifier, only to face locked gates at the airport. They were left without access to food, water, or resting areas, causing frustration among the team. Despite attempts to resolve the situation, the players endured a prolonged ordeal, prompting NFF officials to pull the team from the match entirely.
Victor Osimhen, one of Nigeria’s top stars, was vocal about the treatment of the team, calling it “inhumane” and calling for immediate intervention from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The NFF has since demanded an investigation into the matter.
CAF has opened a probe into the incident, while Libyan authorities cited air traffic logistics as the cause of the delay.
