753 Duplexes: Emefiele In Shocking Investigation By EFFC

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is at the center of a shocking investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which uncovered his alleged involvement in a multi-billion-naira corruption scheme.

According to court filings, Emefiele and his associates used his position at the CBN to facilitate kickbacks from contractors, orchestrating illegal payments through three companies.

These funds, totaling N2.2 billion, were funneled into the acquisition of a luxurious 753-duplex estate in Abuja. The estate was purchased under suspicious circumstances, with funds linked to the country’s foreign exchange policies.

The EFCC’s probe reveals a vast network of corruption that exploited Nigeria’s financial system for personal gain.

As the property is now under government control following its forfeiture, calls have emerged to reallocate the estate to those in need, such as medical professionals and civil servants. Advocates argue that such a move could offer some justice amidst the scandal.
