Breaking: Court Denies Yahaya Bello Bail

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s Christmas plans are likely to involve prison walls as the Federal High Court in Abuja deferred a decision on his bail application to December 10.

Charged with the alleged embezzlement of ₦110 billion, Bello’s case has become one of the most closely watched corruption trials in recent memory.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accuses Bello of diverting public funds to acquire luxury properties and channeling significant sums offshore.

Alongside co-defendants Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, Bello faces a 16-count indictment ranging from money laundering to fraud.

Despite pleading not guilty, Bello’s quest for bail was blocked by EFCC prosecutors, who argued he could potentially tamper with evidence or commit further offenses given his stature and access to resources.

Justice Maryanne Anenih ruled to keep Bello in EFCC custody, citing the need for further review before granting bail. This development ensures Bello will remain in detention during the holiday season, adding personal and political weight to the ongoing case.
