Iyabo Ojo Reflects On Mohbad’s Exhumation

In the wake of the tragic and controversial death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has expressed regret over her earlier advocacy for the exhumation of his body.

Ojo’s initial call for an autopsy aimed to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s untimely demise; however, the ensuing complications have led her to reconsider the decision.

Mohbad passed away under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day. Amidst public outcry and demands for a thorough investigation, his body was exhumed by the Lagos State Police on September 21, 2023, to conduct an autopsy intended to determine the cause of death.

As a prominent figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, Iyabo Ojo was among those who initially called for the exhumation to facilitate an autopsy. Her intention was to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s untimely demise and ensure justice was served.

However, during a recent appearance on the “Talk to B” podcast hosted by Biola Bayo, Ojo expressed regret over this decision. She stated, “I wouldn’t have requested that Mohbad be exhumed if I knew his case would turn out this way.”

The situation has been further complicated by internal family disputes, particularly concerning the paternity of Mohbad’s son, Liam. Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, has insisted on conducting a DNA test to confirm Liam’s paternity before proceeding with the reburial.

This demand has led to significant delays, leaving Mohbad’s body unburied months after the exhumation. Ojo remarked, “He hasn’t been buried till now. His dad says he wants a DNA test done, and I heard the court has granted his request. But I heard his dad has conditions again.”

The autopsy conducted revealed traces of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, in Mohbad’s system; however, the concentration was not deemed lethal. The report suggested that a fatal anaphylactic reaction could be considered, but due to the body’s decomposition, a definitive cause of death could not be ascertained.

The prolonged delays and ongoing disputes have elicited reactions from the public and fans, who are calling for a swift resolution to honor Mohbad’s memory. Many have expressed frustration over the family’s internal conflicts overshadowing the quest for justice and closure.

Ojo’s reflection on the situation underscores the complexities involved in seeking justice within the Nigerian entertainment industry and the unforeseen consequences that can arise from well-intentioned actions.

Iyabo Ojo’s regret over advocating for Mohbad’s exhumation highlights the challenges and unintended outcomes that can emerge in the pursuit of justice. The ongoing family disputes and delays in reburial emphasize the need for a coordinated and sensitive approach when addressing such matters, ensuring that the deceased are honored appropriately while seeking the truth behind their untimely deaths.
