Rap icon, Busta Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., finds himself facing third-degree assault charges after an alleged altercation with his assistant, Dashiel Gables.
The incident reportedly unfolded on January 10, 2025, at Rhymes’ upscale residence in Brooklyn’s J Condominium complex.
According to sources, the 52-year-old rapper allegedly became infuriated with Gables, 50, for using his phone during work hours. Tensions escalated, resulting in Rhymes reportedly punching Gables multiple times, leaving him with visible swelling around his left eye.
Following the confrontation, Rhymes voluntarily turned himself in to authorities and was formally charged. Gables, while declining to comment directly, hinted at potential legal and financial consequences as the matter heads toward a multimillion-dollar settlement.
This isn’t the first time Rhymes has made headlines for legal troubles. His past brushes with the law include a 1998 arrest for gun possession, 2008 charges of assault and drunk driving, and a 2015 incident involving a thrown protein shake at a gym employee, which resulted in mandated anger management classes.
The rapper’s frustrations with mobile phones have been well-documented. At the 2024 Essence Festival of Culture, Rhymes openly criticized the audience for excessive phone usage during his performance, urging attendees to ditch their devices and connect with the music. “Them s—s don’t control the soul. F— your phone!” he exclaimed during his fiery address.
As Rhymes prepares to appear in court on February 2, 2025, fans and critics alike are watching closely to see how this latest chapter unfolds for the legendary artist. Will this incident mark a turning point, or will it be another footnote in his controversial career? Time will tell.
