Four Nigerian music sensations—Tems, Asake, Rema, and Wizkid—have been nominated for the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs), marking a significant milestone for Afrobeats on the global stage.
The 51st edition of the AMAs is set to take place on May 26, 2025, in Las Vegas, with Jennifer Lopez hosting the event. This year’s nominations reflect a diverse array of musical talents, with Kendrick Lamar leading with 10 nominations, Post Malone with 8, and Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey each securing 7 nominations.
In a testament to the global influence of Afrobeats, a new category—Favorite Afrobeats Artist—has been introduced. Tems, Asake, Rema, and Wizkid are among the nominees in this category, alongside South African star Tyla.
This recognition at the AMAs follows a series of international accolades for these artists. Tems and Rema have both been nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards, with Tems earning her eighth Grammy nomination for her debut album “Born in the Wild,” and Rema receiving his first for his sophomore album “Heis.”
Asake and Wizkid’s collaboration “MMS” has been nominated for Best African Music Performance at the Grammys, highlighting the global appeal of their music.
The inclusion of these Nigerian artists in major international award nominations underscores the growing global impact of Afrobeats and its artists.
