Legendary Fuji icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, has been grounded—literally and officially.
In a dramatic turn of events at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Federal Government has slammed the music veteran with a six-month no-fly ban after what officials described as an “unruly and disruptive” episode.
A Meltdown at 30,000 Feet Below
According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Kwam 1 triggered the incident while attempting to board ValueJet Flight VK201 with a liquid substance that violated airport regulations—exceeding the allowed 100ml limit. When airport officials intervened, he allegedly refused to comply, poured the liquid (reportedly alcohol) on staff, and disrupted airport operations by obstructing the aircraft’s movement.
Security had to be called in when the artist refused to vacate the tarmac, reportedly blocking the plane’s taxiway and causing flight delays.
Six-Month Ban, Possible Prosecution
In swift retaliation, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) imposed a six-month no-fly sanction on the entertainer. Authorities didn’t stop there—letters have been sent to the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police, hinting at the possibility of criminal charges.
“No one is above the law—not even cultural icons,” said the NCAA. “This is a matter of national safety.”
Ministerial Firestorm
Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, didn’t mince words, blasting both Kwam 1 and the flight crew for violating ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) safety protocols. He warned that any airline attempting to flout the directive by flying the singer would face regulatory consequences, including license revocation.
Kwam 1’s Camp Fires Back
Kwam 1’s team, however, is crying foul. His spokesperson claims the substance in question was not alcohol, but ordinary drinking water from the airport lounge. They allege that the situation was exaggerated and even revealed that airline executives offered a private jet as compensation, which the singer reportedly declined.
“There was no misconduct. No rules were broken. This is being blown out of proportion,” said a representative.
