Nigerian superstars Wizkid and Davido continue to put Afrobeat on the global map, securing major wins at the 56th NAACP Image Awards.
The prestigious event, which honors excellence in Black entertainment and culture, saw both artists add new milestones to their already impressive careers.
Wizkid’s Record-Breaking Triumph
Wizkid claimed the Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration (Contemporary) award for his hit single “Piece of My Heart,” featuring American R&B sensation Brent Faiyaz. The song, part of his sixth studio album Morayo, not only won critical acclaim but also broke Spotify Nigeria’s record for the highest first-day streams. This marks Wizkid’s sixth NAACP Image Award, making him Nigeria’s most decorated artist at the event.
Davido Extends His Winning Streak
Afrobeat heavyweight Davido bagged the Outstanding International Song award for “HMM,” his collaboration with Chris Brown. This is the second time the dynamic duo has won at the NAACP Image Awards, following their 2024 victory for “Sensational.” Their partnership continues to bridge the gap between Afrobeats and mainstream American music, further solidifying Davido’s status as a global music ambassador.

While Wizkid and Davido shined, Burna Boy and Tems missed out on awards despite their nominations. The event, however, celebrated a diverse array of Black talent across music, film, and television, with big wins for icons like Jamie Foxx, Ayo Edebiri, Keke Palmer, Samuel L. Jackson, and Taraji P. Henson.
