Singer August Alsina, who was scheduled to perform at the 2019 Essence Festival, has been hospitalized after losing the ability to walk.
Alsina, 26, took to Instagram on Monday to apologize to fans as she shared a video of himself lying in a hospital bed. He revealed that he’s woken up and “wasn’t able to walk. Couldn’t feel my legs.”
“Hi guys,” August says in the clip, in which he’s laying in a hospital bed. “As you can probably tell I’m in the hospital. So, here’s the stitch. I woke up one day and wasn’t able to walk. I couldn’t feel my legs and my doctor ended up admitting me into the hospital.” Despite the troubling news, Alsina remains positive while explaining his hospital visit.
“We’re doing a bunch of tests and they’re saying I have some nerve damage going on throughout my body,” August explains. “It’s like my immune system went on vacation. So, I’m just waiting on it to come back and we can get together and it can do what it do, man.”

Back in 2017, Alsina opened up about his battle with liver disease to Jada Pinkett Smith, “Reality is I’m sick all the time. I’d really like to talk about it and I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy. Don’t treat me like I’m a f–king cancer patient, because I’m not.”
He later clarified the statement by adding, “I’m sicker than ever and having a hard time accepting what I feel and what the Doctors are saying is most true. After sitting down and talking with my fathers mother and sister.. They explained to me that sickness and illness runs in my family. My father and grandfather both died of severe illness. But they were FIGHTERS and that’s all that matters. Just ride with me is all I ask.”
