AY Makun Slams Viral AI-Generated Kiss Video, Calls For Ethical Tech Use

Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, well known as AY, has strongly condemned the circulation of an AI-generated video falsely depicting him in a romantic moment with May Edochie, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie.

The digitally manipulated clip, which showed the duo sharing an intimate kiss aboard a luxury plane, quickly gained traction online, fueling speculation and sparking heated discussions.

“This is AI Gone Wrong” – AY Speaks Out

Addressing the controversy on February 4, 2025, AY took to Instagram to set the record straight. He clarified that the video was a complete fabrication, the product of artificial intelligence manipulation. Expressing deep concern over the growing misuse of AI technology, he warned against the dangers of spreading false narratives and urged young creatives to channel their skills toward meaningful projects that contribute positively to society.

Cyberbullying and Past Controversies

This isn’t the first time AY has been caught in the crossfire of online misinformation. He recalled a similar ordeal involving reality TV star Alex Unusual, who was previously targeted by cyberbullies over baseless rumors linking her romantically to him. Drawing parallels, AY highlighted the damaging effects of such digital deception, calling for greater accountability in the content creation space.

Support from Industry Colleagues

In response to the viral AI-generated video, media personality Do2dtun publicly defended AY, asserting that neither he nor May Edochie had done anything wrong. Do2dtun emphasized that both individuals had the right to happiness, especially considering their personal journeys. His support further fueled the ongoing conversation about ethics in AI-generated content.

A Wake-Up Call for the Digital Age

The incident has reignited debates on the ethical implications of artificial intelligence in media. As deepfake technology becomes more sophisticated, public figures are increasingly vulnerable to digital impersonation, raising concerns about consent, privacy, and misinformation.

While AY has dismissed the video as fake, the controversy serves as a stark reminder of the double-edged nature of AI—capable of groundbreaking innovation, yet dangerously powerful in the wrong hands.
