Former Big Brother Naija star, Hermes Iyele, is facing one of the most difficult moments of his life following the loss of his mother, Isioma Phebian Iyele, on November 5, 2024.
In an emotional interview with Pulse Nigeria, Hermes opened up about the depth of his grief, admitting that adjusting to life without her has been overwhelming.
“I haven’t been coping, to be honest. Every time people ask me about it, I don’t have an answer because I don’t know how to,” he shared.
A Loss Too Heavy to Bear
Hermes first broke the devastating news on November 6, 2024, via Instagram, where he poured out his heart about the weight of his loss and the difficulties he faces both mentally and financially.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I’d like to make public the passing of my beloved mum, Isioma Phebian Iyele… I currently lack the strength or capacity (mentally and finance-wise) to handle this situation,” he wrote.
Gratitude Amidst Grief
Despite his sorrow, Hermes remains thankful for the journey he has embarked on since BBNaija, acknowledging that while life has not been exactly as he expected, he is still grateful for the opportunities that have come his way.
“Life has been beautiful; it hasn’t been everything I expected it to be; it’s been that sometimes and even a lot more, but I can’t complain. I’m grateful for all the opportunities and everything in between.”
Seeking Support and Understanding
As he continues to process this immense loss, Hermes has asked for patience from fans, explaining that he may not be able to respond to calls and messages as he normally would. He has also appealed for support—whether emotional or financial—as he and his siblings navigate this trying time.
The loss of his mother has left a deep void, but Hermes is determined to honor her memory while finding a way to move forward, even in the face of unimaginable pain.
