Black Panther Beats Titanic To Become The Third Top-Grossing Film In The U.S
“Black Panther” is still making history as it has turned up as the third best title of all time in the U.S, surpassing “Titanic.”
The Ryan Coogler-directed movie sits behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.7 million) and Avatar ($760.5 million). Black Panther landed at a domestic total of $659.3 million on Friday and went over the $659.5 million grossed by Titanic on Saturday. These numbers have not been adjusted for inflation. Black Panther currently has a domestic total of $665.4 million.
So far, Black Panther has grossed $1.29 billion, ranking as the No. 10 title of all time, worldwide.
According to Forbes, Black Panther earned an additional $8.4 million this past weekend domestically and at this rate, it would take Black Panther 11-12 weeks at best to earn the $95 million needed to beat Avatar at No.2. A feat which is highly unlikely.
Regardless, Black Panther holds the 11th-biggest eighth weekend ever, according to Forbes. It’s also just barely behind $1.3 billion worldwide mark at $1.2999 billion, but it’s still the 10th-biggest global grosser.
