Chris Brown Files $500 Million Defamation Lawsuit Against Warner Bros.

In a bold legal move, R&B superstar Chris Brown has filed a $500 million defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros.

Discovery and Ample Entertainment, claiming their controversial documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence paints him as a “serial rapist and sexual abuser.” The lawsuit, filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, accuses the producers of trading accuracy for profit, allegedly ignoring evidence that disproves their claims.

The documentary, released in October 2024, includes testimony from a dancer referred to as Jane Doe, who accuses Brown of raping her aboard a yacht in 2020. Brown’s legal team argues the allegations are “baseless” and “sensationalized,” pointing out that the case had already been dismissed by a judge. His attorney, Levi McCathern, issued a scathing critique of the production, stating, “This case is about protecting the truth. Their actions not only attack Mr. Brown’s efforts to rebuild his life but also dilute the voices of true survivors of violence.”

While Brown has openly acknowledged his 2009 felony assault conviction involving then-girlfriend Rihanna, he insists he has never been found guilty of any sex-related crimes. He contends that the documentary ignores his attempts at personal growth and instead revives old accusations, undermining his reputation and career.

The lawsuit also emphasizes the damaging impact of such narratives on survivors of abuse, with Brown pledging to donate a portion of any awarded damages to support them. Warner Bros. Discovery, however, has pledged to “vigorously defend” the production.

This legal battle marks a turning point for Brown, who asserts that his fight is not only about clearing his name but also about holding media giants accountable for responsible storytelling. The industry—and the public—now waits to see how the courtroom drama unfolds.
