Juventus star forward Cristiano Ronaldo has reached another impressive milestone outside the football field as he becomes the first person to hit the 250 million mark on Instagram.
With 19.7 million likes, Ronaldo also managed to hold the record of the most-liked post of 2020. The Portuguese star’s post mourning the death of soccer legend Diego Maradona got the most number of likes on Instagram last year.
The five-time Ballon d’Or enjoyed a great fan-following across the globe and is one of the most prominent sportspersons in the world.
With his new Instagram achievement , Ronaldo is followed behind by popular celebrities, including singer Ariana Grande (214 million followers) and actor and wrestling icon Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson (209 million), who are second and third respectively in terms of followers on Instagram.
Ronaldo’s nearest sporting rivals in the follower stakes are Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar who each have 142m and 132m followers respectively.
Other athletes that feature in the top 10 include Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcelo, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Ronaldinho, LeBron James and David Beckham.
According to Forbes, Ronaldo earns nearly USD 1 million per sponsored post on Instagram. The 35-year-old reportedly earned USD 47.8 million from paid posts on Instagram in 2020.
