Revelations from actor Derek Dixon have put filmmaker Tyler Perry at the center of a $260 million civil suit, alleging years of sexual harassment, assault, and retaliation connected to Perry’s BET shows The Oval and Ruthless.
The case, filed in June, is now under fresh public scrutiny after Dixon spoke out in his first televised interview, adding painful detail to the allegations.
Alleged Abuse Behind Closed Doors
According to court documents and Dixon’s ABC News interview in early September:
Dixon claims the abuse began after meeting Perry in 2019 during the opening of Tyler Perry Studios. Perry allegedly offered him acting roles and even promised to help produce Dixon’s pilot.
The suit details repeated harassing text messages, unwanted advances, and physical incidents. One especially disturbing claim: Perry allegedly climbed into Dixon’s bed uninvited, rubbed his thigh, and made sexual comments despite Dixon’s objections.
Another incident involved Dixon being invited to use a “weight monitor” in Perry’s guest house, only to find himself pressured into being nearly naked, and grabbed inappropriately. Dixon says he resisted and later locked himself in a bathroom to escape the situation.

Dixon alleges the conduct had severe repercussions: emotional trauma, diagnoses like depression and PTSD, plus a loss of income — reportedly around $400,000 — after leaving The Oval when he felt unsafe continuing.

Perry has rejected the allegations outright. His attorney, Matthew Boyd, has called the lawsuit a “scam” and “fabricated,” accusing Dixon of using the system to extort money.
