Music mogul, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs graces the cover of the May 2019 issue of Essence magazine with his children as he opens up about adjusting to life after the death of his ex-wife Kim Porter.
Porter, 47, who was the mother of 3 of Diddy’s 5 biological children, passed away in November, 2018 after contracting double pneumonia while battling the flu.
Diddy, 49, talks about Porter’s passing with Essence, saying, “Three days before she passed, she wasn’t feeling well. She had the flu, and she sent the kids over to my house so they wouldn’t get sick.”
“One night I was checking on her, and she was like, ‘Puffy, take care of my babies.’ She actually said that to me before she died.”
According to him, those words stuck with him on the morning of Nov. 15 after news broke that Porter had been found dead at her home in Toluca Lake, California.
“I jumped into mommy mode,” Diddy tells Essence. “I sent people in every direction to try to make sure the kids would not hear about it on social media or the news.”
During the interview, he said that family now comes before ‘anything else’ after admitting that he would often choose work first while his children were growing up. He said: “Before [Kim died], I was a part-time father, you know? My family was always first, but there are countless times when I chose work over everything else.”

Diddy and Kim shared 21-year-old Christian Combs and their twin daughters D’Lila and Jessie during their on-off relationship, which initially began in the Nineties.
He is also father to 25-year-old son son Justin and 13-year-old daughter Chance from previous relationships but considers Kim’s eldest son Quincy, 27, one of his own sons.
