EFCC Drags Blessing CEO to Court Over Alleged ₦36m Fraud

Popular relationship influencer and media personality Blessing CEO has found herself at the centre of a major legal storm after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned her over an alleged ₦36 million property scam in Lagos.

The social commentator, whose real name is Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, was brought before a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi following accusations that she collected millions from a client for the lease of a luxury six-bedroom duplex in Lekki — a property investigators claim she neither owned nor had permission to rent out.

According to the EFCC, the controversial deal allegedly occurred in July 2024 and involved a complainant identified as Mrs. Ifeyinwa Nonye Okoye. Prosecutors accused Blessing CEO of obtaining money under false pretence and unlawfully converting the funds for personal use.

During the court session presided over by Justice D.I. Dipeolu, the influencer denied all allegations and entered a not guilty plea. Her counsel, P.I. Nwafor, told the court that ₦24 million had already been refunded to the complainant, adding that efforts were ongoing to repay the outstanding balance.

Despite the repayment claims, EFCC prosecutors argued that the matter remained a criminal case and could not be resolved through private negotiations alone. The anti-graft agency maintained that the charges filed against the defendant were based on alleged violations of federal law.

Following arguments from both sides, the court ordered that Blessing CEO be remanded in EFCC custody pending the hearing of her bail application.

The high-profile case has since triggered heated conversations online, with Nigerians divided over celebrity accountability, social media influence, and the risks surrounding luxury real estate transactions. The matter is expected to return to court on June 5, 2026, as legal proceedings continue.
