Elon Musk’s $1 Million Giveaway To Voters Sparks Controversy

The recent announcement by Tesla Motors CEO to give away $1 million daily to registered voters who sign a petition in swing states has triggered controversies.

Elon Musk’s America PAC is offering a $1 million prize to one registered voter in swing states each day until the election.

Mr Musk’s campaign group America PAC, which was set up to support Donald Trump in the presidential contest, calls on registered voters in seven swing states to sign a petition. Each day until the election, one signatory is selected at random and awarded a million-dollar prize.

Since the announcement was made, critics have argued that this initiative may violate federal election laws, as it essentially offers financial incentives tied to voting actions.

Looking at the act from a legal perspective, the Justice Department has expressed concerns about the legality of the giveaway, with calls for further review from election officials.

Political figures like Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz have condemned the giveaway as emblematic of manipulative campaign tactics

The U.S. Justice Department has also cautioned that this lottery could potentially violate federal election laws, as it aims to influence voter turnout by incentivizing participation through monetary rewards.

According to critics, such actions may constitute election interference, raising concerns over the ethics of using financial incentives in political campaigns.
