Kanye West Reoortedly Wants To Legally Change His Name To ‘Ye’
American rapper/producer, Kanye West has reportedly filed a request in court to legally change his name to ‘Ye.’
According to TMZ, the Grammy award winning rapper filed for the name change on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at a Los Angeles court.
In the court filing, the 44-year-old wants to get rid of his full name to his longtime two-letter nickname, Ye, with no middle name or last name, reports Associated Press.
West, who has called himself Ye on his social media pages for years, tweeted that he wanted the change in 2018, saying, “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”
This move is coming ahead of his forthcoming album “Donda” which he named after his late mother.
Meanwhile, Kanye’s estranged wife, Kim Kardashian West, still has his name attached to hers, months after filing for divorce.
Kanye has requested joint physical and legal custody of their four kids — North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 23 months.
It is not clear if she’ll change her name if the court approves the billionaire’s decision.
The rapper first hinted about plans to change his name in 2019 when he had a conversation with Yeezy’s head footwear designer Steven Smith.
