Everton are close to signing Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru from Belgian side KAS Eupen in a £7m deal.

After a standout season in Belgium’s top flight in which he finished top scorer with 24 goals in 38 games, the 20-year-old striker had been linked with a number of clubs including Arsenal.

However, the player is understood to have had a medical with Everton on Monday and is expected to be loaned to Anderlecht for the next 12 months to continue his development in Belgium.

He is regarded by Everton director of football Steve Walsh and manager Ronald Koeman as one for the future.

Onyekuru, who has won one cap for the Super Eagles earlier this month in the 3-0 friendly win over Togo, will become Everton’s third signing of the summer. Jordan Pickford arrived from Sunderland for 30 million pounds ($38.3 million) and midfielder Davy Klaassen cost 25 million pounds from Ajax.

Spain under-21 striker Sandro Ramirez has also been linked with the Merseyside club.
