Former Marlian Records artist, Fabian Blu, has come forward with explosive allegations against the label, claiming it exposed him to drug use, withheld his royalties, and subjected him to mistreatment during his time there.
In an emotional interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the singer described his experience under Naira Marley’s label as nothing short of a nightmare, likening it to being “imprisoned.”
Signed to Marlian Records between 2020 and 2022, Fabian Blu revealed that his introduction to hard drugs came as part of the label’s culture, which he described as “chaotic and dysfunctional.” According to him, beyond the rampant substance abuse, he also endured verbal and physical abuse. He further alleged that discrimination based on tribe and religion played a role in how he was treated, stating that because he was neither Yoruba nor Muslim, he was unfairly labeled a “lazy artist” and sidelined.
The singer also accused the label of withholding his royalties even after his departure, revealing that when he attempted to claim his earnings through legal means, Naira Marley brushed him off.
Fabian Blu’s shocking revelations come in the wake of ongoing scrutiny of Marlian Records, which has been under fire since the controversial death of another former signee, Mohbad, in September 2023. Following Mohbad’s passing, questions about the internal workings of the label have only intensified, with growing calls for accountability.
As of now, neither Marlian Records nor Naira Marley has issued an official response to Fabian Blu’s allegations. However, his testimony adds to the mounting concerns about the toxic culture within the label—one that may now be impossible to ignore.
