The Rock and Roll of Fame announced its 2021 inductees on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 but sadly Nigerian Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti missed out.
He did not make the cut despite placing second in the fan vote category which creates a single official ballot.
In February it was announced that the Nigerian legend would compete alongside 15 other music legends including Mary J. Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, Tina Turner, Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, Jay-Z, Chaka Khan, Carole King, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against The Machine, Todd Rundgren and Dionne Warwick.
A win would have made Fela the first Nigerian artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but he came in second place behind Tina Turner in the final fans’ vote, according to the results.
The new inductees are Jay-Z, the Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Carole King, Todd Rundgren, and Tina Turner.
