IOC Needs To ‘Protect Female Sport’ – Lord Coe

A candidate for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Sebastian Coe, has stressed on the importance of safeguarding women’s sports.

Coe advocates for clear and firm policies regarding the participation of transgender athletes in female categories, a topic that has sparked ongoing debate.

In his pitch for the IOC presidency, Coe highlighted the need for “clear-cut” rules to ensure that women’s sports remain protected from potential inequalities arising from the inclusion of athletes who were assigned male at birth.

He made a pointed reference to the discomfort caused by instances such as two transgender women winning boxing gold at the Paris Olympics, which, he said, “made him uncomfortable.”

As the current president of World Athletics, Coe has already pushed for policies restricting the participation of transgender women in elite women’s competitions.

His proposals are seen as pivotal in shaping the future of gender inclusion in international sportsts
