“Empire” actor Jussie Smollett has officially been charged with disorderly conduct, for filing a false police report.
A press conference was held by the police to discuss the shocking turn of events surrounding Smollett.
During the press conference, Chicago police chief, Eddie Johnson alleged that Smollett sent a false letter and staged the attack because of apparent dissatisfaction with his job and salary.
The actor even paid two men $3,500 to stage the attack.
The actor is actually facing a serious charge, since the charge is a class 4 felony, which is punishable by up to one and a half years in prison.
“How can an individual whose been embraced by the city of Chicago turn around and slap everyone in this city in the face by making these false claims bogus police reports?” said Eddie Johnson.
“He did harm to every legitimate victim who’s in need of support by police and investigators as well as the citizens of this city.”
Jussie is accused of paying two brothers, Ola and Abel Usondairo, to setup and perpetrate the phony hate crime on January 29.
The 36-year-old actor claimed he was attacked by racist white pro-Trump supporters, who doused him with a bleach-like chemical substance and tied a noose around his neck while yelling racist and homophobic slurs.
