Kanayo O. Kanayo Questions Heavy Militarisation Of Southeast Nigeria

The intense military and police presence in Southeast Nigeria has given veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo so much concern recently.

Kanayo through his social media platforms, questioned why the region has become so heavily militarized, noting that the number of checkpoints on Southeast roads is alarmingly high.

Speaking further, he revealed that it’s nearly impossible to travel over 200 kilometers in the area without encountering numerous security checkpoints.

His concerns reflect the growing frustration among Southeast residents, who feel the region is disproportionately policed compared to other parts of the country.

Many believe that the military presence is a response to secessionist movements in the area, particularly those led by groups like IPOB.

However, Kanayo, like many others, is questioning whether the situation justifies such a high level of security presence. He also questioned if the Southeast is still considered part of Nigeria, given the level of scrutiny and militarization the region faces.

Kanayo’s statements have sparked widespread debate about the federal government’s approach to handling security in the Southeast and whether this increased presence contributes to a sense of alienation for the region’s citizens.
