The 2020 Lagos City Marathon has been concluded as Kenyan runner David Barmasai won the race, setting a new record in the process.
Barmasai, 31-years-old crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 20 seconds which is a new record for the race. Last year, Ethiopia’s Sintayehu Legese won the Lagos City Marathon in 2 hours, 17 minutes and 28 seconds.
The 42km race commenced from National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, and finished at Eko Atlantic.
Barmasai is known for his long-distance running as he has a personal best of 2:07:18 hours. At the 2011 World Championships in Athletics he came in fifth.
He will walk away with the grand prize of $50,000 while the second and third place winners will win $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.
For the 10km race, the first male and female runners will drive home in brand new Kia Rio cars while the second and third place winners get N1,000,000 and N750,000 respectively.
