Residents and commuters were caught off-guard today as several areas in Lagos were affected by the heavy rainfall which led to flooding.
The downpour lasted for hours as many were forced to stay indoor or seek makeshift shelters while in transit as various streets were covered in floodwater. The heavy rain also slowed the free flow of traffic, creating gridlocks in many parts of the Lagos metropolis.
Some of the affected areas are Marina, Lekki, Agege, Iju Road, Victoria Island, Oshodi, Ilupeju, Ogudu, Ketu and Magboro among other parts of the states.
Flooding is common in Lagos, a coastal city home to over 20 million people but today’s rain was exceptionally heavy.
Despite government efforts to construct drainages and advise against dumping refuse in them, flooding is almost certain during heavy rainfall.
