A popular Lagos TikTok star, Habeeb Hamzat, known online as Peller, has been hospitalised after deliberately crashing his car during a livestream in what authorities and viewers are calling a suicide attempt.
The shocking incident occurred on Sunday afternoon along the Lekki‑Epe Expressway, drawing widespread attention across social media.
During the livestream titled “RIP Peller,” Peller appeared visibly distressed, speaking openly about suicidal thoughts. Footage from the broadcast shows him alone in his newly purchased Mercedes‑Benz, reportedly on a phone call with his girlfriend, identified as Jarvis, amid reports of a recent breakup. At one point, he can be heard saying, “I will use this car and have an accident right now,” followed by, “I’m scared. I’m scared,” before intentionally steering the vehicle into a stone barrier.
Bystanders quickly rushed to his aid and he was transported to a nearby hospital. While details about his current condition remain unclear, the incident has ignited discussions on mental health awareness, particularly the pressures faced by social media influencers. Some social media users have expressed concern and support, while others criticised the act as reckless.
Reactions have also emerged from those close to the situation. Jarvis, the TikTok personality believed to have been in contact with Peller during the livestream, was reportedly emotional following the viral circulation of the crash video.
The distressing event has sparked a broader conversation about emotional wellbeing, relationship stress, and the mental health challenges faced by public figures online. Advocates are calling for increased empathy, awareness, and support for young creators navigating personal struggles under the spotlight.
If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or suicidal thoughts, seek help immediately from local support services or mental health professionals
