Nigerian rapper and singer Lil Kesh has candidly shared his ongoing battle with mental health challenges, including anxiety and self-diagnosed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
In a recent interview, Lil Kesh, whose real name is Keshinro Ololade, revealed that he has experienced symptoms consistent with ADHD since childhood, such as restlessness, difficulty focusing, and overthinking. Although he hasn’t received a formal medical diagnosis, he stated, “I don’t like to identify as ADHD, but I have ADHD. I diagnosed myself, but trust me, I know.”
The artist also opened up about his struggles with anxiety, particularly stemming from uncertainties about life and career expectations. He expressed that the pressure to maintain success after his early hits like “Shoki” and “Efejoku” became mentally draining, contributing to his decision to take a break from the music scene.
During his hiatus, Lil Kesh focused on improving his mental well-being by adopting healthier habits, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, better sleep hygiene, and mindfulness practices. He emphasized the importance of mental health, stating, “Your mental health is everything. It affects how you see the world, how you see yourself.”
By sharing his experiences, Lil Kesh aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues in Nigeria and encourage others facing similar challenges to seek help and support.
