Liverpool Crush Man City At Anfield
Liverpool comfortable beat Manchester City with three goals in the first half to take a commanding 3-0 first leg lead in their Champions League quarterfinal.
City’s only Premier League defeat as they move to the brink of the title has been a 4-3 loss at Anfield in January – and they were made to suffer once more in the face of Liverpool’s pressing, aggression and potent attack.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring after 12 minutes with his 38th goal of the season then Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain doubled their lead eight minutes later when he unleashed a fierce shot past Ederson from 20 yards.
And the third goal that gives Liverpool such a commanding advantage to take to Etihad Stadium next Tuesday came just after the half-hour when Sadio Mane rose to head home Salah’s cross.
However, a perfect night for Liverpool was marred when Salah limped off with an injury early in the second half.
City could already be crowned English champions by the time the sides meet again for the second leg in six days’ time should they beat local rivals Manchester United on Saturday.
However, it will take an extraordinary Etihad turnaround if they are to make just their second ever Champions League semifinal.
