Manchester City convincingly defeated Manchester United 3-1 in Sunday’s derby at the Etihad opening up a 12-point gap between to two teams.
Last season City spurned the chance to seal the title against United by blowing a 2-0 halftime lead to lost 3-2 but this time around they made sure they took care of business.

Bernardo was the provider for David Silva to register his seventh goal of the season with a shot that had just too much power for De Gea.
City enjoyed upwards of 80 percent possession in the opening 20 minutes as the visitors struggled to gain any sort of foothold in the game.
United managed to slow down City’s attack and were glad going into halftime just a goal down.
City doubled their lead three minutes after the break when Riyad Mahrez played a one-two with Sergio Aguero and the Argentine blasted high past De Gea.
Romelu Lukaku came in as a substitute and he immediately made an impact when he was brought down by Ederson in the penalty box.
Anthony Martial stepped up to take the penalty and calmly scored for the fifth straight league game, giving United belief of another great escape.
A United comeback was not possible as İlkay Gundogan finished off a 44-pass move that dragged the Red Devils all over the pitch before the German international controlled Bernardo Silva’s cross to slot home five minutes from time.
With this win City leapfrog Liverpool to move back two points clear at the top of the table, while United remain in eighth.
