‘Mothers of Chibok’ Premieres At DOC NYC Festival In New York

The documentary Mothers of Chibok, which debuted at the DOC NYC festival in New York, chronicles the emotional journey of the mothers whose daughters were abducted by Boko Haram in 2014.

Directed by Nigerian filmmaker Joel ‘Kachi’ Benson, the film dives into the resilience of these women nearly a decade after the tragic event.

Through a lens of perseverance and hope, it paints a portrait of their lives, showing not only the anguish of their loss but their strength to carry on.

Benson, who spent five years immersing himself in the Chibok community, aimed to portray the full humanity of the mothers, depicting moments of joy, personal victories, and unyielding resolve.

The film shifts the narrative from victimhood to a celebration of their courage.

Mothers of Chibok is currently being shown in person at the Village East by Angelika and online until December 1, 2024, offering a global audience a chance to witness their powerful stories.
