A wave of grief has swept through Nigeria’s gospel music scene following the death of Evangelist Olubunmi “Bunmi” Akinnaanu Adeoye, the revered worship minister widely known as Omije Ojumi.
Her family confirmed her passing on Tuesday, January 14, 2026, bringing to an end a life defined by music, faith and service.
According to the family, the gospel singer died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos after battling health challenges. The news was made public through an emotional Instagram post by fellow gospel artiste Ayo Melody, who described her death as a heartbreaking loss and prayed for God’s comfort for her loved ones and eternal rest for her soul.
Akinnaanu became a household name in Christian circles with her powerful worship hit “Omije Ojumi,” a song that struck a deep spiritual chord and found its way into churches, prayer meetings and personal devotion sessions across the country. The song’s intense emotional delivery and prayerful lyrics set her apart, earning her admiration as a genuine vessel of worship. She later followed up with other well-loved songs, including “O Ti Sure,” further deepening her influence within the gospel music space.
Her health struggles became a public concern in late 2025. In October, videos from a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, circulated online, capturing moments of intense prayers offered for her healing as she sat before the congregation, visibly affected by a lingering leg ailment. The images moved many and sparked a nationwide wave of prayers among gospel music lovers and ministers.
Before embracing gospel music as a full-time calling, Akinnaanu worked in the banking sector, a career she eventually left behind to follow her passion for ministry through music. Having discovered her singing gift at an early age, she dedicated her life to worship, using her voice as a tool for prayer, encouragement and spiritual renewal.
