As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Nigeria is poised to host the 13th ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament from March 6 to 8, 2025.
The event will take place at the Velodrome, located within Package A of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
This prestigious tournament is expected to attract top wrestling talents from across the West African subregion, providing a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and fostering regional unity through sports.
The National Sports Commission (NSC), in collaboration with ECOWAS, is organizing the event. NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko expressed enthusiasm about Nigeria’s role as the host nation, stating that the country is committed to delivering a world-class tournament that meets international standards. He emphasized that hosting the event aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to ECOWAS and the promotion of sports.
Similarly, NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade highlighted the significance of the tournament in strengthening regional sports ties and showcasing Nigeria’s organizational capabilities on the international stage.
The selection of Nigeria as the host for this tournament underscores the country’s growing stature as a hub for international sporting events and its dedication to fostering unity and development through athletics.
