The global dominance of Nigerian music has reached new heights, with artists from the country raking in over ₦58 billion in Spotify royalties in 2024.

This staggering sum marks a historic surge in revenue, more than doubling the earnings from 2023 and quintupling those of 2022.

Afrobeats and Beyond: The World Can’t Get Enough

The exponential growth in streaming revenue reflects an unstoppable demand for Nigerian music on the global stage. More Nigerian artists than ever before are reaping the rewards of their craft, with the number of those earning at least ₦10 million in royalties more than doubling since last year and tripling since 2022.

Spotify’s Commitment to the Sound of Africa

Spotify, a key driver of this success, continues to amplify Nigerian talent. Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Spotify, reaffirmed the platform’s dedication to African artists, stating: “We remain committed to empowering Nigerian artists to earn from their art whilst maintaining transparency with artists and stakeholders. The incredible growth of Nigerian music, both locally and globally, is a testament to the talent and creativity within Nigeria, and we are proud to support its continued rise.”

Global Reach: Nigerian Artists Take Over Playlists & Charts

Over 1 billion first-time listeners discovered Nigerian artists on Spotify in 2024.
More than 1,900 Nigerian artists were added to Spotify’s editorial playlists—a 33% increase from 2023.
A large chunk of the ₦58 billion came from international listeners, proving that Nigerian music is a global phenomenon.

The Future is Bright for Nigerian Music

The industry’s growth is nothing short of extraordinary:
206% increase in local streaming over the past year.
782% surge in streaming since 2021.

This milestone highlights Nigeria’s powerhouse position in the global music scene, driven by unstoppable creativity, evolving soundscapes, and a rapidly expanding fanbase worldwide. As Afrobeats, Afropop, and other Nigerian genres continue to make waves, one thing is clear—the world is listening, and Nigerian artists are cashing in like never before.
