Veteran Nollywood actor and media personality Patrick Doyle has openly criticized socialite Sophia Egbueje for flaunting her newly acquired luxury items—a Lamborghini and a high-end wristwatch—amid a scandal involving Afrobeats star Burna Boy.
The controversy began when leaked voice notes surfaced on February 27, 2025, in which Egbueje alleged that her friend Ama Reginald and Burna Boy’s associate, Manny, encouraged her to pursue a relationship with the singer. She claimed that Burna Boy had promised to buy her a Lamborghini, a promise that went unfulfilled.
In response to these allegations, Burna Boy seemingly mocked Egbueje in a freestyle video, singing, “I no buy Lambo, is that why you’re shouting?”
Unfazed, Egbueje showcased her white Lamborghini Urus on March 1, captioning it, “My baby is here. As dem no buy am, I buy am,” implying she purchased it herself.
Reacting to this display, Patrick Doyle took to Facebook on March 3 to express his disapproval. He criticized those who congratulated Egbueje, stating that some “half-wits” were impressed by her acquisitions, despite widespread knowledge of her “shameful means of livelihood.”
Doyle further commented on the societal implications of glorifying such displays of wealth, suggesting that romanticizing iniquity has become common among certain individuals.
Egbueje has not publicly responded to Doyle’s remarks. The incident has sparked discussions on social media about the sources of wealth and the ethics of flaunting luxury items, especially when linked to controversial circumstances.
