Peter Obi Applauds Tems’ Grammy Triumph, Celebrates Nigerian Musical Talent

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and former Governor of Anambra State, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, for her recent Grammy Award victory.

Tems clinched the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards held on February 2, 2025, in Los Angeles, for her hit song “Love Me Jeje.”

In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi expressed his elation over the achievements of Nigerian youths, particularly in the entertainment sector. He remarked, “I am ever elated by the huge success Nigerian youths are making in various fields, especially in the entertainment sector.” He further lauded Tems, stating, “I like therefore to extend my hearty congratulations to our Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tems @temsbaby, who just secured her second Grammy Award with her win in the Best African Music Performance category.”

Obi also took the opportunity to commend other Nigerian artists who received nominations at this year’s Grammy Awards, acknowledging their contributions to the nation’s burgeoning entertainment industry. He emphasized, “Undoubtedly, Nigeria remains home to the endless flow of talents who through their creative arts, continue to put the nation on the global map.” He reiterated his commitment to fostering an environment that supports the growth and development of Nigerian youths, helping them harness their talents for national productivity.

Tems’ recent accolade marks her second Grammy win, following her previous award for Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2023 for her collaboration on “Wait For U” with Future and Drake. Her continued success serves as a testament to the global impact of Nigerian music and the exceptional talent emerging from the country.

Peter Obi’s recognition of Tems and other Nigerian artists underscores the significant role of the entertainment industry in enhancing Nigeria’s global reputation and the importance of supporting the nation’s youth in their creative endeavors.
