Nigerian street-hop sensation Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been granted ₦2 million bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, following his arraignment on multiple charges linked to a violent altercation with government officials.
Portable who found himself in legal turmoil, walks freely, at least for now, after he was granted bail.
A Heated Clash with Authorities
The self-styled ‘Zazu’ crooner faced a five-count charge including conspiracy, assault, obstruction of justice, possession of weapons, and conduct likely to cause public harm. His legal troubles stem from an alleged February 5, 2025, confrontation, where Portable and his associates reportedly clashed with Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development officials. The authorities were carrying out an enforcement exercise at his bar in Ota when the situation escalated.
Legal Drama Unfolds
Alongside nine co-defendants, Portable pleaded not guilty, setting the stage for a high-profile court battle. With the court granting him bail, he is expected to return on March 5, 2025, for the next hearing.
A History of Controversy
This is far from Portable’s first run-in with the law. In April 2023, he was arrested and arraigned in Ogun State on charges of assault and theft, spending time in police custody before securing bail. His repeated legal battles continue to raise questions about discipline and accountability within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
While Portable’s legal team prepares for his defense, this latest development underscores the growing need for Nigerian artists to navigate fame with caution, ensuring that their actions align with the law.
