R. Kelly, in his first TV interview since being granted $100,000 bail over the sexual assault charges filed against him, has said that the accusations are lies.
In an interview with Gayle King on ‘CBS This Mornining’ the RnB singer insisted that he was not guilty of 10 charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against four women, three of whom were minors at the time. He claims they are “rumours” and “not true.”
“Use your common sense. … Forget the blogs, forget how you feel about me. Hate me if you want to; love me if you want. But just use your common sense,” he says, raising his voice. “How stupid would it be for me … with my crazy past and what I’ve been through?”
Kelly at one point gets very emotional and appears to begin crying.
“I didn’t do this stuff! This is not me! I’m fighting for my f-ing life!” he said.
The singer has faced decades of sexual abuse claims without being convicted, and has denied all previous allegations.
If convicted, he faces three to seven years in prison for each crime.
