Rapper Nipsey Hussle Killed In LA Shooting

Los Angeles rap star Nipsey Hussle was killed Sunday afternoon, after being shot multiple times in front of the clothing store he owns.

Two other people were injured in the shooting which occurred outside Marathon Clothing in the area of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard.

All three victims were transported to a hospital, where Nipsey was pronounced dead, according to police. The other two were in stable condition, police added.

Nipsey Hussle, 33-years-old, whose real name was Ermias Davidson Asghedom, grew up in South Los Angeles and was in the Rollin’ 60s street gang when he was teenager.

He later became a community organiser, and was working to prevent gang violence. He helped spear a major art initiative in his home neighborhood called “Destination Crenshaw” which was a 1.3 mile open-air museum that featured local art.

“I grew up in gang culture,” he told the LA Times in a 2018 interview. “We dealt with death, with murder. It was like living in a war zone, where people die on these blocks and everybody is a little bit immune to it.

“I guess they call it post-traumatic stress, when you have people that have been at war for such a long time. I think L.A. suffers from that because it’s not normal yet we embrace it like it is after a while.”

Earlier on Sunday, he had tweeted: “Having strong enemies is a blessing.”

Nipsey has also worked with huge names in the industry, like Drake, Childish Gambino, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, The Game, YG, Young Thug, Snoop Dogg, Ne-Yo, Kirko Bangz, Dom Kennedy, Tyga, Jadakiss, Chamillionaire and many, many others.

Nipsey leaves behind a classic body of work, including mixtapes like “Slauson Boy”, “Mailbox Money”, “The Marathon”, and his most recent full-length album, “Victory Lap”, which got him a Grammy nod for Best Rap Album just a month ago.

Outside the music industry Nipsey made moves too. Last year he launched the first Marathon Clothing smart store at 3420 W. Slauson Ave. in Los Angeles. He also owns The Marathon Agency, SC Commercial Ventures, Proud 2 Pay and All Money In No Money Out Records, according to Press Atlantic Records.

Nipsey, born Ermias Asghedom, is survived by his son Kross Asghedom whom he shared with actress Lauren London, as well as a daughter named Emani Asghedom from a previous relationship.
